In the Beginning

There were many times this summer that I planned on putting up a post, reviewing my rationale for whatever school was my current front-runner in the "which law school should I attend" contest. However, the process felt particularly personal and I refrained from sharing my thoughts. Suffice to say that there were many times that I found myself cursing my excess of choice and the hours spent agonizing over the decision.

At the end of the summer, there was one clear winner. I am now a student of law at the University of Saskatchewan. After my first week of school, I am pleased with my choice. The record of the law school and its faculty are equally impressive. More impressive is the palpable excitement of the faculty to work with students to help us grow as lawyers. Our profs are as eager to work with us as students as they are to work with the Canadian government to bring about positive change to the Canadian legal system.

The small size of the school, combined with the interest of key staff members in issues of South African human rights and the South African constitution are both draw cards that I will continue to enjoy throughout my LLB.

As an added bonus, I am keen to be living in Saskatchwan, therefore able to develop a more detailed picture of the Canadian fabric.

So, wish me luck. And keep your fingers crossed that the upcoming cold will not dampen my spirits!
